Equipped with all of your comments and suggestions on how to deflect his love, embrace his offer of free drinks, and ideas of how to let him know I just wasn't that into him, I went to work last week ready to shoot him down gently (by telling him I was so, so, so, so busy when in reality I was really busy eating a pint of Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby).
But Jay never put his offer out there to grab drinks again. In fact, he barely spoke to me the last few days he was in the Chicago office.
On his last day, I was working late again. Some of the IT guys took him downstairs to grab some Berry Chill before coming back upstairs to test the phones and do all that other IT stuff they do in that cave of theirs. As I was leaving, I gave Jay a hug and wished him luck. And that was that. We promised to stay in touch, but I knew that probably wouldn't happen. We'd known each other for a measly month and there is no real attachment/attraction on my part.
On Monday, I came to work and sat down and in front of my computer screen was a tiny bottle of Visine with a note that said, "Just in case -Jay". (Quick background: one day, my contacts were really bothering me and were all blurry so Jay saved me by giving me some eye drops). Which was a nice gesture...but also bizarre.
So now I have a bottle of eye drops to remind me of my non-existent relationship with the IT guy Jay. Cool?

Eh, guys are confusing. At least you have a free bottle of visine now, right?
I think it's great if you can not wrap more in that bottle of eyedrops than might be there. It's sad that sometimes some women can not even like a guy, but he does something nice and then they're cyber stalking him.
And by "some women" I probably mean me.
i love your blog header =) & ben & jerry's chubby hubby! ah heaven ;)
It's not the worst way to part ways. :) You've now got this semi-bizarre story, and no one will ever guess what he left on your desk before you reach that part in the storytelling!
I don't do Chubby Hubby - my personal go to is New York super fudge chunk. Yeah, guys are like that. My husband casually offered drinks, which turned into dinner, which turned into him texting me the next day and a real real date the next week.
Don't worry. It will be fine. I have plenty of near misses before.
I always thought guys are pretty easy to figure out... and then you have ones like this who totally ruin everything you thought you'd figure out about men. Or maybe hes just a fluke?
This is why we should not read into things too much at times, maybe J had even forget that he asked you out,he was just being nice to the New girl, who was on the other hand taking it way to serious.
Guys are weird. At least he left you with something practical!
was it a new bottle of visine? I hope so cuz sharing is just not cool...or sanitary....:-)
Now, a guy who really knows how to give gifts! Flowers, shmowers, it's all about keeping those eyes from being red and bothery, ha!
Your site is tres chic! I almost thought maybe you were Whitney Port for a minute, because you were blogging about Kelly Cutrone and a guy named Jay, haha.
Guys can be so confusing. At least you didn't have to give him excuses for not wanting to go out. Btw I love the layout of layout of your blog :)
Oooo I wonder if he didn't say anything again because he reads your blog!!!
How stalkerish would that be.
Heh.
Just a thought.
it's romantic.. kinda
Maybe he's hoping that every time your contacts get dry, you'll think of him?! At least now you won't have to buy Visine for awhile ;)
how odd? a bottle of Visine after no contact for days. Interesting. I hvae no idea what that means? Just enjoy the bottle of Visine you didnt have to pay for.
I'm pretty sure that he definitely was into you, and he might have just figured that you weren't as interested after that late day. It probably also hit him that he was leaving anyways. I think it's kindof cute... I think deep down inside somewhere, he's going to miss you
I think its funny!
Boys are stupid. Throw rocks at them. I left you something on my blog
But...but...what? That's so intriguing...and aggravating.
But at least you won't have dry eyes -- would've been a great gift if he hadn't, you know, left.
My opinion is he knew you were not interested in him 'that' way...so he did the best thing all around...keep it as friends. Ya never know, friends always have a tendancy to go further...:)
omg he was totally in to you...and I think its kind of cute. I really hope you write him an e-mail thanking him...and maybe you should look deep within to see if you really don't have feelings for him...because I get the feeling you might :)
lol thats really funny.. it is very odvious that he knew that you where not interested. It is why he hardly said anything to you, he basically saved himself the embarressment of getting turned down in public. i give him kudos for being smart :-) and for you my dear i give u a million and one kudos for the ::hugg:: "lets keep in touch" us ladies always want to be nice you know... so that the guys self esteem doesnt shoot down on your behalf and telling them that we're going to keep in touch gives them some type of hope
yeeeyy you working girl you rock
you can't make that stuff up! although it would translate well to film, maybe working girl should write a screenplay!?!
i came into my office this morning an found a smiley face made out of the hoop hearings i left at HP's superbowl party and a piece of my notebook paper that he artfully tore into a smile and a note saying 'have a good day!'.
talk about confusing...
also...talk about the 2nd time he's had to return earrings to me (the first being the time i accidentally slept at his house). work faux relationships = awk.com
Guys are just so.... well.... hard to read... confusing, etc!! :) lol that was a realy nice gesture on his part though. Or it could be seen as kinda creepy.... take your pick :)
That is a super cute gesture! I think he's definetly into you...otherwise there's no way that a guy would go out of his way to buy something (small as it was) for just a co-worker. He sounds like a sweetie, too bad about the timing though.
oh, how sweet! ;)
keep him at bay, just in case :p
