Birthdays Make Me Fat

Monday August 18, 2008 at approximately 4:15 PM

WG1: i just ate like 4 cupcakes
WG2: sick
i want some
WG1: yes, exactly, i feel sick
WG2: how did you do that?
WG1: two birthdays today
we had a dozen from crumbs, so obviously, i had to take several flavors
then someone got magnolia and the icing is just soooo good
WG2: haha
that's so much sugar

Since the marketing department is overworked and underpaid, our bosses treat us to Crumbs cupcakes or big cups of Jamba Juice on our birthdays. Yesterday was one of my boss's birthdays. We celebrated with the usual dozen cupcakes from Crumbs is assorted flavors: Oreo, strawberry, caramel apple, red velvet, just to name a few. One word, yum!

First, I had half of a lemon icing cupcake. Then, I had a fourth of the Hosttess cupcake. The "birthday party" ended before I could grab another piece. And by "birthday party" I mean, eight of us sitting in the conference room eating cupcakes with rather awkward silences. After the party, the remaining cupcakes were placed behind my desk. Once of the benefits of having a desk in the center of the office, there are always treats within a 5-step radius. But, I swore I would not eat another Crumbs cupcake. Keywork being Crumbs.

Back at my desk, I ate a Magnolia cupcake. Best. Icing. Ever. End. Of. Story.

A half an hour later, I at another fourth of a Crumbs cupcake. Now for some cupcake math, one Crumbs cupcake equals three normal cupcakes. Magnolia cupcakes are normal cupcakes.

Okay, so I had three cupcakes. Not four. Still, I felt awful for the rest of the afternoon.

We had a 50th birthday for a co-worker today. They had a party with pizza and wings and salads and people brought in fruit trays and veggie trays, and cookies and cakes and brownies and ice cream.

I gained 5lbs today.

We have a chocolate drawer at my office. Yes, that's right, an ENTIRE drawer in the fridge devoted solely to chocolate that always stays full. I have to walk by the kitchen at least 45 times a day which means I am probably each on average 45 pieces of chocolate - a day! OK, maybe not 45, but still!

Those cupcakes look good! We are having a diet contest at work and we are all bringing in treats to sabotage each other. These cupcakes would work for sure! Thanks for the tip.

My group has 3 birthdays in August. Instead of combining them, each week someone is bringing in a cake. I'm so over cake.

I loathe office birthday parties that takes place in the actual office. What's the point in that?! We usually go to a pub after work and a few beers in, there's no awkwardness around the table.

It's not even 10am here and my mouth is watering. Now I like have to have a cupcake. Hmm Magnolia Bakery is absolutely magnificent....

I guess I'll just have to stop by NYC sometime and pick up some Crumbs. It's on the way home from Chicago, right?

That is absolutely criminal. Now I will have to use this to get favors from women. Hahaha wow what a weapon to have... Forget diamonds, I know what to get any girl I want to impress from now on ;)

I find it interesting that a post about food encourages a rash of comments from women...
