Working Girl Wardrobe: cityclips

Proving that twenty-something's are taking over the world, here is my new "must-have" for the upcoming fall season - cityclips - a new stylish and oh-so-cute accessory and the brain child of a twenty-something Working Girl. cityclips are an accessory specifically designed to keep Working Girl's long slacks and pant cuffs from dragging on the narsty, gritty streets of NYC without having to resort to stuffing your pants in your boots or picking up your pants and wading through that flood on your way to happy hour.

If you can't follow my diatribe above (sorry, it's been a long day), here's the condensed version:

Problem: most work pants are hemmed to be worn with high heels.
Another problem: most Working Girls wear flats on their commute to work.
Solution: cityclips.

Here's how they work. You buy a pair of these stylish cityclips, roll up your pant cuffs, clip on two cityclips to either the sides of your pant cuffs or the back heel area (note: these can be worn in a multitude of different ways, which makes me giggle with excitement). The best part - the cityclips are made with magnets so ultimately you're not ruining a pair of pants by using these god-sends - you're actually helping preserve them!

Ok, so I admit, my black pants aren’t designer-made (admittedly, they’re from Target, but if you say Target with a French accent then it automatically makes them cost $50 more than you bought them for), but that doesn’t mean I don’t want them dragging or fraying. Even though they’re cheap, I still expect them to last longer than six months. So once I get my next paycheck, I am totally shelling out the $36 to buy a pair of these cityclips.

Now I just have to decide what design I want. My biggest dilemma of the day, whether I should get the large nautical anchor cityclips or the pearl cityclips.

Or splurge and buy both. I vote both.

Great idea!!! I am totally going to get a pair for when I have to walk into the office from the BART station, AND these will make a great gift for other working girls....thanks for sharing.

Do both, with out a doubt! you have more than one type of pants (right) so you "need" more than one type of clip. I'm a stright guy and I could figure that one out!

This is a great idea! I don't commute to work, but when my pants are too long, I've resorted to taping and even stapling them to make them the right length!!!

oh those are so cute (and useful). if i had to wear slacks, i would definitely invest in those.

GENIUS! I am a seamstress and understand the depths of this problem more than you could know... so why didn't I think of this??

That is a completely brilliant idea! I can't afford to hem all of my pants and if I do it myself it will turn out to be a complete disaster. Great idea!

That is absolutely BRILLIANT! This is one of those times where you think "Why in the world didn't I invent that and make millions?"

they would never work here in italy. true we are not used to walk that much maybe... but truth is also we are so crazy for clothes we have 'that' pair of shoes for 'that' pair of pants, so that basically they never drag. and nobody would ever think about wearing a different pair of shoes on their commute, it would be too weird.

What a nice accessory!

Actually such clips aren't an invention of the new Millennium. They were extremely poppular in the 20ies of the XX century. Little safety-pins were used instead of magnets, though.

There were also such things as trousers clips, they didn't look very glamourous, but did keep cyclists' pants from tearing in pieces.

Love the anchor clips by the way ;)

Heck, that's a great idea to just have in general. I'm vertically challenged so after about 4 months all of my pants are horribly frayed. It doesn't matter if I wear heels or not.

P.S. I believe the same thing about Target. It should totally count.

The clips are also perfect for Florida, too. Practically every day I am greeted by puddles in the parking lot after our requisite afternoon thunderstorms --- these are a brilliant fix!

Thanks for sharing!

Okay I admit I'm not a city girl - and when I looked at that picture I thought that someone didn't get the inventory control tag properly removed! LOL

Fantastic idea! I hate that in the winter.

I want!!! I always buy trousers in the longer length that are fine with heels. Then I have to go schlepping through puddles whilst dropping off small child at nursery and have attractive mud splats for the rest of the day! Can you get them in UK?

Being all of 5 ft nothing - I need these! Thank you for sharing such valuable info!

I love this idea and came across this awhile back.

although i probably could fashion my own, im sure they would be turn out dysfunctional.

The ideal is good, but I don't like the look of these clips. But I do like your blog.

your blog is hilarious! I love the comment about saying Target with a french accent makes them more expensive. You should read "Confessions of a shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella. For some reason this blog totally reminds me of that.

Ginger said...

Very cool idea!

I will have to take the cheap route out though, and make my own!

Can't be that hard, can it? And then I get to pick my own buttons and fabric!

Thanks for sharing!

SavingDiva said...

Great idea! I might have to make my own because $36 is out of my price range.

I'm so glad you blogged about this! I always find it hard deciding what to wear in the morning because I may not have the right-shoes-for-the-right-pants-for-a-matching-shirt, and now I can wear longer pants with shorter heels, perfect!

This'll also make a great DIY project!

Genius! I live in Chicago and have all my dress pants hemmed for heels but I do wear flats when I'm walking out and about in the city. I'm ordering these NOW! Love it!

Why can't I think of something simple and smart like that? Great idea!

Another great essential is the Sally Henson's spray on pantyhose. It's not as weird as you would think and its works wonders. Perfect for us young ladies who don't want to wear pantyhose.
