It's Time to Grow Up

The new me starts on Monday. I could not be more excited. Finally, I will only have to do one job. But I could also not be more annoyed. The new me will be the Marketing Assistant. She will work on projects for Mom Boss, Dad Boss, Promo Girl, me and the rest of our department. We will manage the new me on her projects. So, she should probably take us seriously.

Normally, it's easy to take Promo Girl, myself and other cubicle pod-mate seriously. Sure, we may chat a little bit, make fun of one another and maybe get a little inappropriate. Just a little. But we're hard workers.

That was until the two of them discovered Twilight. Promo girl rented the movie over the weekend (before reading the book, which, for the record, I did not condone) and she is now in love with Edward Cullen. Our other co-worker is half way through the series, has seen the movie and is equally obsessed.

Back in November, when I finished the series, I begged them both to read it. I told them they'd love it. They thought I was a crazy, vampire obsessed teeny-bopper. Now, the two of them are printing out photos of Robert Pattinson, decorating their cubes and saying "oh hello Edward," every time they sit at their desks.

I've been partaking in the Edward love fest and I even have one picture in my cube. I spend a little time censoring NewMoonMovie.org for Promo Girl so that she's doesn't find anything out before she reads the book. I've explained the obsession to Working Girl Two and she put it best. She said that they were in the pre-teen obsessed phase and that we, having finished the series and passed that phase, are in the cool teenager phase.

The three us decided yesterday that when the new me starts, the Twilight talk must stop. I'm not knocking any Twilight fans. I'll be the first to admit I love Edward Cullen but how is a new girl supposed to take us seriously when we're saying things like "I wish I were a vampire with sparkling skin."

When it comes to Twilight, no growing up is necessary (and everyone else should understand this!)

Love it :)

This is so hilarious!!
I love Edward Cullen, but I'm in the cool teenager phase too....and the work place with a new employee is NOT the place to be fessing up to our imaginary love's!! Haha!
Good idea keeping it to a minimum! Your new employee will be all the more impressed with you!

That is really funny. Lately I've seen women of all ages reading the book on the subway and on the bus. And 40 year old working professionals getting that "teeny bopper" look on their faces when they talk about the movie and the books is hilarious.

I seem to be the sole dissenting voice on Edward Cullen. I have nothing against him but I totally would have chosen Jacob Black - TOTALLY!

I'm about 1/2 way done with the last book in the series.

haha, i love the Twilight series, but I can see why keeping it hush hush around the new job will be a good idea...

If anything - I bet the New Me - is already a Twilight freak. For reals. She probably has "sparkle" posters all of her room and bumper stickered to her car.

I'm a little fed up with the whole Twilight phenomenon (sp!!???) so late in the game - only cause I was one of those 20 somethings waiting in line with little children at midnight to get the copy of the books and rush home and try to read them from front to back in 10 hours flat. Still, even with ppl jumping on the "Team Edward" / "Team Jacob" bus late - those little books are effing addictive!!!!

It is almost a true fact that everyone woman loves Edward! For Real! If they say they don't - they are lying. Liars should be forced to meet the Voltari. Hands down.

Ahhh! I love it! I get so excited whenever I hear of anyone over the age of 20 who enjoys Twilight. (So glad I'm not the only adult woman in love with a sparkly, fictional, teenage vampire) I was late to the game- just finished the books a few days ago. I also watched the movie first. After reading the books, I realize how much the movie just doesn't do the book justice!
Ok..enough ranting..Congrats on New Me Monday and good luck cracking the whip on the Edward talk :)

Working in Portland, OR, which is a very *gay friendly* place, and for a healthcare provider tht is also very *gay friendly* I think the Twilight Phenomenon is in office settings all over the globe.

However, the talk is simply NOT censored here.

My favorite quote comes from the 4th floor "HR Divas," as we call them.. a group of 5-8 gay men who gather by the elevator water cooler constantly.

I over heard them the other morning saying "Of course he's the perfect man. He's self loathing, so it saves YOU the trouble, if his skin is like stone you know he's ALWAYS hard, and c'mon... if you saw a pretty sparkling boy, I'm sorry, but I'd think 'Fag!' before I thought 'Vampire.' "....

I couldn't help but giggle the rest of the way up to my floor.

I am sooo cracking up. Nothing wrong with Twilight obsession... although, I don't like to talk about it at work because I work with a bunch of middle aged people who haven't read it and just don't understand!
