I'm a Fashionista

Or at least I pretended to be one today.

At 7:00 AM this morning, I bored the Amtrak Acela Express from New York to Washington, D.C. for a magazine sponsored beauty event.

The event was held at a certain beauty counter at a department store in the Metro D.C. area. The particular beauty company is a sponsor of a corporate program and today's event was part of their sponsorship. The beauty company wanted beauty or fashion editors to attend the event to give consumers tips for fall fashion and beauty advice, what they got was me.

They didn't know I was just a marketing coordinator who hopes every morning that my make-up is close to flawless and that my outfit is somewhat put together, they thought I was an editor. So, I had to fake it.

The most important part of this task was my outfit. At 5:45 AM I put on a pair of wide-leg dark-wash jeans, a tailored white shirt, purple cardigan, gold skinning belt and white ballet flats (for the train ride, there was no way I was putting my black pumps a second before I had to).

To prep, on the train I read September and October issues of fashion magazines and I learned that purple is in for fall.

So, I stood at the beauty counter for two hours and told virtually every women who sat down for a make-up touch-up or foundation consultation that she should try purple for the fall. I varied what she should try, of course, a purple scarf, purple eye shadow, purple accessories. Purple. Purple. Purple.

That's what you get when you send the marketing coordinator to pretend she's a fashion editor. Good thing the beauty counter girls were loving on purple for the fall just as much as the fashion magazines.

And this is precisely what makes us working girls fabulous ;0)

Here's a secret: When I started with my internship with a PR firm in the fashion and beauty industry, I knew next to nothing about fashion. I faked it for months. I have since picked up on the-way-things-go, but I did the same thing. I think a lot of people do. :)

That is hilarious! I bet working where you do there is alot of pressure to dress well and look good anyway. Not where I work...perhaps I will make that a post. Kinda earthy and low maintenance where I work.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know purple was in for the fall. I'll have to dig out some of my purple shirts.

You're right, purple is in for the fall. I really need to spruce up my wardrobe a bit b/c I'm mostly all blacks and greys. Though I might pass on the purple shadow (not that I don't have it, I do). But I use all my shadows as liners. Tricks of the trade.....not that I'm in the trade. I'm just a major faker like you :)
Good job on having your finger on the pulse of the fashion world.
I give you kuddos for the heals. You're one step ahead of me.

I have always loved purple and always try to incorporate it into my wardrobe; I really don't follow what the hot colors are for each season because I just wear what makes me look good.

Purple is my favorite color and I have a great hue of purple for an eyeshadow that brings my green eyes out.

I think you made an excellent backup!

After all, when you're in marketing, you have to be an expert in the Art of BS!

I swear, that's all I learned in school!

Good job!

You are indeed a fabulous working girl. I wish I had a great job where I could dress up and pretend to be a fancy fashionista. I just sit here bored all day!

Exactly - its all about knowing how to stay afloat. Nice job working girl. Purple may be in this fall but that will not prevent me from wearing all the other pretty colors that come out this time too!

Yep, purple is definitely one of the big colors for this fall. You can see it everywhere, from fashion magazines to the Pottery Barn catalog. Nice work ;-).

That's hilarious. Purple eyeshadow is reallyyyy tough. I love purple eyeliner though (I have green eyes so it works real well.)

You know, this is the first place I read that purple was "IN" for the fall, now it seems like people are talking about it everywhere!

I listened to you guys and just bought a new purple bag, so far nothing but compliments on it!

Good job WG's!
