VIP Status

I have arrived in Atlanta for my company's big event. And since I've been awake for what seems like over 24 hours, I am a teeny bit delirious. So bear with me.

As I write this post, I am sitting in the Executive VIP lounge on the Executive floor of the hotel. AH! I feel as though I have arrived just because I have a hotel key that is gold, sparkly, and says VIP. Ok, that's false. But I do feel pretty cool. I have been granted VIP status. It's official. I have come up in the working world.

When I checked into my hotel yesterday, I was informed by the front desk that I had been upgraded since I was the main on-site contact for the event. I was floored. Mainly because there are so many other people I feel like should be upgraded before me, you know? I'm a lowly coordinator.

But this means I have access to a free computer, a free printer (not that I've used it), and this pretty Executive lounge with comfy couches and a really awesome view of...nothing. Otherwise, there is nothing really special about my VIP status. But I do feel pretty important, which in turn has made me more confident, which I think in turn has made me a better worker.

Is it weird that a gold sparkly key has made me more productive?

More updates to come on Wednesday when the conference ends!

at the conference resort i work at in the billing department we do the same thing. and depending on who is attending there are others who do as well. (like say your vice president, etc.) but the coordinator is ALWAYS given an upgrade because 99% of the time if it weren't for YOU picking OUR resort, then you wouldn't be with us, you'd be somewhere else.

VIP status is always something to be excited about! And if it makes you work more efficiently, then it's just proof that you should ALWAYS go VIP! haha :)

That is awesome- I totally want a sparkly gold key.

About a month ago I was bumped up to First Class for the first time on a work trip, and my initial words to the desk attendant were: "are you sure?" Smooth.

Well that is pretty exciting! Enjoy yourself. You have worked hard to get where you are at.

OH yeah VIP status is one of the great perks of being a meeting planner!

I once got a 2 room suite with a giant walk in shower room and a huge garden jacuzzi tub with a bathroom bigger than most hotel rooms. I thought I died and went to heaven! They also gave me a gift basket in my room and asked me to stay a day after the conference to spend a complimentary day at their spa getting a massage, facial and pedicure. I said YES, YES, YES!

Of course I think that it was because it was precisely 1 month post 9/11 and most of their other meetings had canceled and they were just so glad we were still coming.

I've had great treatment at other hotels too.

Here's a tip - want to go on vacation - pick a location that is a possible locale for a work meeting and then call the sales manager at 2-3 swanky hotels there. Schedule a 1 hour meeting while you are in town and often they will comp you a room for the night too! I did Orlando this way in 2004 and it was great - and we did book one of the hotels I stayed in for a meeting the next spring.

Even saying that you're a VIP makes you feel great :)

Sounds wonderful!!

I have many friends heading to atlanta for their companies big event this week as well...They, I'm sure, will not have VIP status, but they should all be there by thursday!

Enjoy your stay.

PS..I am a new follower, have you disclosed what company you work for? I'm curious if it is the same one as my friends, or if Atlanta is just the place to be!

Good luck with your event! I plan events as well for my department and the hotels always upgrade me since I'm the one who plans it and deals with everything. It almost makes it worth it!

I love upgrades. They're my favourite.
