To Wash or Not To Wash

It has been approximately 25-days since I last did laundry (this includes dry cleaning). I've run out of underwear and had to buy some from Gap Body. More importantly, I've run out of decent clothing to wear to work.

Today, I wore a dress that I'm pretty sure I wore a week and a half ago but wore a sweater over it so that it looked like a skirt. Tomorrow is Friday so I'm allowed to wear jeans and all of my nice jeans are dirrty. Yes, dirrty with two r's, like Christina Aguilera's "Stripped." They are that dirty.

While WG2 now has a washer/dryer in her apartment, I do not. When we lived together the laundromat was directly across the street from our apartment. I could quickly drop off my laundry right before closing on a weekday evening and pick it up again the next day right before close.

Now, I have to schedule appointments to have it picked up and dropped off. Pick-ups cannot be scheduled later than 7:15, which barely gives me time to separate my whites and darks and put my pretty little undies in my pretty little undie washing bag. This means that two days in a row I have to leave work with enough time to go home, sort my laundry, write out instructions and get it picked up. Completing this task the night before would just be too easy. Getting out of work early is just too hard.

Next Thursday, I'll be heading to my dad's house in suburia (you may remember my adventures there). I'd love to wait until then and bring my laundry home but I barely have clothes for the weekend let alone next week at work. Think I can make it or not?

And, yes, I did purchase enough underwear to get me to next Thursday.

I feel ya - our laundry's been piling up for weeks! Luckily I'm working from home tomorrow - so I can work and shift laundry from washer to dryer...

It's funny how all us working girls face the exact same problems regardless of where we live!

This sounds like my college years waayyyyy back in the day (5 months ago) when I would do laundry maayybe every 2-3 months or so when I'd run out of underwear. Handwashables? yeah, maybe washed those on the rare occurrences of solar eclipses. I'm ashamed to say that I never thought to just go and BUY new pantieees! Now that I'm an au pair working girl, I do the my/the kids' laundry every 5 seconds, so this is a welcome change!

i have the exact same problem!! i made it to 5 weeks once before i did laundry. the outfits i was coming up with for work though, were not always very pretty. i'm at 2.5 weeks right now and hoping i can make it to next weekend when i go see my dad in CT.

Well, I'm in the same boat but have no excuse -- I have a washer and dryer in the house, but I think my cat sleeps on them more than I use them. When I finally do laundry it's like going shopping -- I find soo many cute things I forgot I had!

That's pretty funny. I say wait it out and enjoy it b/c once you have kids....you'll be doing laundry at a minimum 2 times a week.
Ahhhh the good old days...how I miss thee.

I woke up this morning and totally revamped an outfit I wore last week and flew out the door-I just haven't had time to waste at the laundromat! You can make it-I'm waiting until I go home next Friday, too! Dad will be so pumped to see me schleping that awful laundry bag of mine up the drivway!

Laundry in the city is the WORST! I'm totally gunning for you to get creative (loving the dress + sweater = skirt trick, use that often) and totally pull it off! :)

haha yea I know that feeling. I think every girl has opted to just buy more clothes/underwear instead of doing laundry. It's just so time-consuming and boring. Bleck! If I were you I'd go for it and try and wait till you can freeload off your dads. Who knows? Maybe you'll come up with some creative outfits in the process. haha Oh yeah, love your blog. Adding it to my follow list now! :]

I haven't washed clothes in well over two weeks either. I am glad to say though that I haven't run out of clean undies yet :)

heck, bring your laundry home. all parents expect it anyway. my kids wear shirts inside out thinking I won't notice the last time i did laundry. i'm so proud of them! btw, purchases made at target and wallmart are excellent back up plans. whatever works.

This is exactly how I am. I end up living by the two-day rule with jeans (if you haven't worn them anywhere terribly awful you can wear jeans twice in a row) simply because I have no tolerance for laundry. My washer/dryer is up in my houses' addition which has no insulation, no doorknobs, oh and no windows - just empty squares in the walls. So I can either buy new clothes or freeze my butt off doing laundry and -30 degree weather. What's a girl to do?

You can make it!

I live in the basement of a family's house. A wife, husband and 5 kids. There is not a chance I ever get to squeeze my laundry in!! I do get to hear the washer and dryer running as I lie in bed. It's taunting me.
If I do manage to slip a load in, the great thing is by the time I am able to retrieve it, it's been dried and folded!
If I could only get every ounce of laundry in there and then disappear for 7 to 10 days until it's done!

Not that I ever used to do my laundry on a regular basis if I had an open free washer/dryer. I think it makes me much more creative with my outfits. Seriously! You may discover new combinations you would have never come up with before! I say do it until Thursday and document your outfits for us to see!

I have the same problem with the laundry... it's a big time drain, isn't it?

Oh, and FYI you should ALWAYS wash your new undies before you wear them!! You don't know where they've been, plus they often have lots of nasty sizing chemicals chilling out on them! You can easily get infections and UTI's.

I usually keep a stash of panties hidden in another drawer to use when I decide to go a month without washing, lol.

hahaha, i understand. i can usually only go 3 weeks without doing laundry. by then i've got to do about 6 loads worth to get it all done. maybe if i downsized my closet it would happen more often - but what fun would that be? stretch it if you can, hahaha, but maybe handwash a thing or two in the sink so you can re-wear them over the next few days?

Just think of all the energy and water you're saving by not washing your clothes! Way to be green (or should I say brown lol). :)

I once went two weeks without doing laundry... I had to do it eventually because my basket was going to implode.

GAWD i HATE not having in suite laundry! yes i think you can make it... do you think you could wash a few items in WG2's apartment?

*GASP* No undies? I wonder how many working girls go without at times. Or even turn them inside out. lol Don't look at me.

LMAO! Histerical..

My dad (who yells at me for spending too much money on unnecessary things) told me that when he was in college, it was cheaper for him to buy new underwear than it was to wash them. I'm not exactly sure how much underwear or laundromats cost back in the '60s, but I'm willing to bet the same wouldn't be true today... unless of course, you bought packs of Hanes from Target or something. I'm guessing you're like me and have slightly more expensive tastes! Best of luck to you!

um....pretty gross.

But hey, if it works.
We get all of the laundry done for us. There are also washing machines on every floor of every building on the compound, yet it is sometimes 2 weeks before I do a washing.
Sometimes that lazy can just creep into your bones and stay there...
